Step 1: Gather Your Tools

Before you start measuring, make sure you have a flexible measuring tape, a mirror, and a notepad to jot down your measurements.

Step 2: Wear Appropriate Undergarments

Wear the undergarments you plan to wear with the gown. This ensures that your measurements reflect the true shape of your body when you wear the gown.

Step 3: Take Bust Measurements

Wear a well-fitting bra and measure around the fullest part of your bust. Make sure the measuring tape is snug but not too tight, and parallel to the ground.

One of our clients was concerned that a dress she loved did not fit her properly. She scheduled a Facetime consultation to hear from our creative director Leora to see what could be done. As soon as Leora saw her with the dress on through facetime, she realized that the client was trying on the dress without a bra. Due to the lack of undergarments, this altered the fit entirely. With Leora’s advice, the customer then tried on the gown with the appropriate bra, and it ended up looking fabulous on her! She was pleasantly surprised, extremely relieved, and even ended up wearing the dress to her son's wedding! All it took was some guidance and reassurance.

By taking the time to measure yourself accurately, considering the specific guidelines provided by our size charts, and seeking professional guidance, you can ensure that your mother of the bride gown not only looks stunning, but fits like a dream!

Step 4: Measure Your Waist

Locate your natural waist, typically the narrowest part of your torso.

Measure around this area, maintaining a comfortable fit without pulling the tape too tightly.

Step 5: Determine Your Hip Measurement

Find the widest part of your hips and measure around, ensuring the tape is parallel to the ground. Keep the tape snug but not constricting to get an accurate hip measurement.

Step 6: Length Consideration

For floor-length gowns, measure from the base of your neck to the floor, wearing the shoes you plan to wear with the gown. For tea-length or knee-length gowns, measure to the desired hemline.

Step 7: Double-Check and Record:

Take a moment to double-check all your measurements and if possible, have someone assist you for precise results.

Consult the Size Chart: Refer to the specific size chart for each dress and choose the right size based on your measurements. If you are in between sizes it is best to size up. It will be easier to zip up and access if the dress has potential.

Seek Professional Assistance: Consult with a professional tailor for precise measurements and fitting advice. Tailors can offer valuable insights into alterations that may be needed for the perfect fit.
